Chelsea played third tier side Plymouth Argyle in their FA Cup 4th round tie and needed an extra time winner from Alonso and a brilliant penalty save from Kepa to secure the victory.
The football League one side opened the scoring in the 8th minute with M. Gillesphey. Veteran Cesar Azpilicueta equalised for the blues in the 41st minute of the match. Both teams ended with a 1-1 score line after 90 minutes with Chelsea enjoying 72% of the possession. In the first half of extra time Chelsea built a brilliant play from Werner and Havertz assisted Alonso who scored the goal. But the drama wasn’t over.
A foolish tackle inside the box from M. Sarr awarded the penalty to Plymouth. But, goalkeeper Kepa saved the penalty and Chelsea hung on to win the game.
Chelsea are now through to the next round in FA Cup and are placed 3rd in the Premier League.
They have their ucl tie against LOSC Lille on 22nd Feb.
